“I know, Lord, that our lives are not our own. We are not able to plan our own course. So correct me, Lord, but please be gentle. Do not correct me in anger, for I would die.”

Jeremiah 10:23-24

But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves are green, and they never stop producing fruit.”

Jeremiah 17:7-8

January Newsletter

Hello, my friends!

Good news!! We made it!! I am at 100% of upfront expenses and monthly pledges!! I have been released to the field and have purchased my plane tickets. I leave February 13th! This would not have been possible without your generous giving! Thank you to all of you who have supported me with your pledges and with your prayers through these many months of training and fundraising!

Last month I completed my last required training at Mission Training International (MTI). It was three weeks of intense cross-cultural training. I learned so much that will be invaluable when I get to Cape Town, but the best part was hanging out with fellow missionaries for three weeks. We really bonded and I know I came away with some lifelong friends! See earlier blog entries for more info!

The downside to all this is the many goodbyes I have been saying and will continue to say until I leave! November 19 was my last day of work at SimplexGrinnell and though I don’t miss having to be to work at 8:15am, I do miss my co-workers, many of whom have become good friends! Then I moved back home to my parents house in Washington, IA that weekend, so I am missing my Des Moines buddies. No more small group meetings, no more work projects, no more karaoke, wow, I miss y’all so much! I stopped in Lincoln, NE to say goodbye to my friends there. And then there’s all the family goodbyes! This is harder than I thought, but it’s great feeling your love and support; I will carry that with me as I go!

Please continue to pray for me as I prepare to go these next three weeks and for my safe transport to Cape Town. Also please keep in mind that though I have reached 100% of funding, this is just the bare minimum that I need. The more you give, the more I am able to give to the programs in Cape Town! So please continue to give as you feel led. I am putting together an email prayer network, so if you want to receive these prayer requests and I don’t have your email, let me know at bobbi381@yahoo.com. I know these next two years are going to be an exciting, yet challenging ride; I’m so glad I have all of you backing me up!

Love and God bless you!!
